10 Ways to Thank your Customers for their Business

Written by

Brianna LeCompte

I still remember attending my first Trivia night back in 2013. A group of my coworkers were discussing some options for happy hour venues and when we saw that a spot down the street was hosting a Trivia Night, we decided to go for it. I was instantly hooked. When the opportunity arose to join the Last Call team, I was ecstatic. Working with a talented and creative team to spread my love of trivia across the country-what could be better! I currently manage sales and outreach in our west coast areas. Outside of work, I love to travel and am also an avid equestrian and Disney movie lover. All Posts

It is a well-known business principle that it is far more expensive to acquire a new customer than it is to retain an existing one. How much more expensive? While the exact number is up for debate, depending on which study you believe, the cost can be anywhere from 5 to 25 times as great.

That is business reason enough to focus on keeping your current customers as happy as possible, but it also doesn’t account for the other benefits of maintaining satisfied customers. The happier your customers, the more likely they are to provide you with referrals and testimonials, spread positive information about you by word of mouth and social media, and create a community that supports your Trivia Nights.

It is important to show your customers that you appreciate your business and value your partnership. While providing excellent Trivia Nights is a given, below are ten ways you can go above and beyond to show your customers that you truly care about delivering exceptional service.

A traditional thank you note

Sometimes, old-school is the best method. Write your clients a personalized, handwritten thank you note, letting them know how much you appreciate their business.

You don’t have to wait for any particular occasion to send out thank you notes. In fact, by sending one “just because,” you can surprise your clients, which will leave an even stronger impression.

Teach them something new

Show your clients that you’re dedicated to being a business partner to them by passing along new information relevant to their business. Whether it’s an infographic detailing the most effective social media strategies, a recipe for a new seasonal drink, or a link to a free event planning webinar, passing along valuable information lets your clients know you care about their business even outside of Trivia Night.

Celebrate loyalty

Give your clients VIP treatment when they reach certain milestones for Trivia Night. On their one year anniversary, offer them a free Trivia Night, or a theme show at no additional cost. By rewarding your clients for sticking with you, you encourage them to continue the partnership.

Spotlight your clients

Select a client to feature on your social media accounts each month. By providing them additional visibility and promotion, you increase the likelihood that new customers will decide to give their bar a try.

Send them a gift

Whether it’s baked goods, a gift card, or a bottle of wine, everyone likes receiving a gift! This may not in your budget at the start of your side hustle, but it is a great way to show appreciation to your loyal clients as your business starts to grow.

You can either send gifts to celebrate milestones, or as a way to surprise and delight your clients.

Follow up on their feedback

Feedback is an essential part of growing and improving your business. Follow up with clients to show them ways you have implemented changes based on their feedback. This lets them know that you value their input.

Send holiday cards

For a personal touch, be sure to add your clients to your Christmas or New Years card distribution list. Or, if you want to cut through the noise, pick a more obscure holiday like Star Wars Day or International Joke Day.

Throw a party

Once a year, throw a customer appreciation party for all of your clients. Provide them with food, drinks, and a short Trivia show so they can get in on the fun. As an added benefit, a party also allows your clients to network and build connections within their industry.

This is one of the more time consuming ways to thank you clients, so be sure you have the necessary resources before taking this on!

Recognize important dates in their lives

Whether it’s their birthday, their daughter’s graduation, or the 20 year anniversary of the opening of their bar, be sure to recognize and acknowledge important dates in your clients lives.

Give them some swag

Some side hustlers opt to have “swag” made with their logo or business name as their Trivia Nights grow. If you do decide to develop your own merchandise, pass some along to your clients free of charge.

Fostering long term relationships with your clients is essential to the growth of your Trivia Night side hustle. Use the tips above, or develop your own ways to show your customers that you appreciate and value their business.
